Directions

If you’re coming from outside of Michigan, the best way to get to Rochester is to fly to Detroit Metro Airport and cover the rest of the way by car (either yours or someone else’s). Rental cars may be tough to come by, so book yours early and coordinate travel with friends. If you’re more local, the Royal Park Hotel is in downtown Rochester, about 15 miles north of Detroit.

FROM METRO AIRPORT

Start out going eastbound on I-94. Take it to northbound I-75, and then take that to Rochester Road (exit 67). After that, head north for an additional 8 miles or so and then turn right on University Drive. The hotel will be on your right. The drive should take about an hour.

FROM BLOOMFIELD

Starting from Maple and Telegraph, head north on Telegraph until you reach Square Lake Road. Turn right, and then bear left onto northbound I-75. Take I-75 to eastbound M-59, and take M-59 to Rochester Road. Head north for about 3 miles on Rochester Road, and then turn right onto University Drive. The hotel should be on your right. The drive should take about half an hour.

The nice thing about having a wedding at a hotel is that you don’t have far to go to get to where you’re staying! We have a room block reserved at the Royal Park Hotel; mention the Kahan-Hubbard wedding to get a discount. For cheaper accommodations nearby, the Spartan Inn (named for the Michigan State athletic teams, not for its accommodations!) is less than a mile away.

The Royal Park Hotel is in downtown Rochester, one of Metro Detroit’s most charming walkable downtowns. If you want to explore the area during your downtime, may we suggest:

EATING

Kruse and Muer’s is a local icon for American cuisine - don’t miss the fried calamari! If you still have room afterward, or are looking for a quick snack, Red Knapp’s is a delightful old-time diner known for its milkshakes and onion rings. If you have a car and some time, head south toward Troy and explore fascinating options for Indian, Middle Eastern, and Chinese cuisine.

Sightseeing

The Royal Park Hotel is accessible to the Paint Creek Trail, one of the finest scenic walks in metro Detroit, in spite of its unexpected location. Alternatively, walking up and down Rochester’s Main Street will give you a feel for the character of this charming downtown. Historic Meadow Brook Hall, a mansion once owned by the Dodge family, is a short drive away.

Shopping

Main Street in downtown Rochester is lined with fascinating shops, selling anything from antiques to chocolates to clothing and jewelry. There is even a hardware store that has been in business since 1880. Somerset Mall, the most upscale mall in Michigan, is about 10 miles to the southwest.
